Former IMF Economist becomes Jersey Finance Chairman

Economist and statistician Dr Gunther Thumann has been appointed as the new Chairman of Jersey Finance. He succeeds Robert Christensen, who resigned as Chairman when he was elected as a Jersey Jurat in January, reports BLGlobal.

From 1978 to 1994, Gunther served as an Economist in the German civil service and a Senior Economist for the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC. 

After joining Salomon Brothers in London as Managing Director, in the late 1990s he founded a consultancy specialising in central banks. 

In 2007, Gunther was appointed Partner, CEO and Chairman of the board of Brevan Howard Capital Management in Jersey (Channel Islands) and has spent 10 years there building the offshore business. He retired from Brevan Howard in January.
