Press release from Carey Olsen on Thursday 30 April, 2020.
Leading offshore law firm Carey Olsen has accelerated its growth plans across Asia with six appointments in its Singapore and Hong Kong offices since the beginning of March.
In Singapore, Kate Lan and Vivian Siah have most recently joined the firm's litigation, insolvency and restructuring practice which, despite only launching in November last year with the lateral partner hire of James Noble, is already the largest offshore litigation team in Singapore.
Kate is a senior associate who specialises in commercial litigation, trust and estate claims, shareholder disputes and corporate insolvency. Kate began her career in the litigation department of one of the largest law firms in Southeast Asia, before subsequently practising in UK-based international firms, where she gained significant experience representing clients in international arbitrations and cross-border disputes.Vivian is an associate from one of the leading Singapore law firms. She has extensive expertise across a wide spectrum of complex, high-value and multi-jurisdictional disputes.
Kate and Vivian join a team that also saw the arrivals of associate Keng Huang Goh and paralegal Christine Fernandez in March. Keng Huang has a broad range of experience in commercial litigation, with a focus on shareholder-related disputes and insolvency and restructuring. Prior to moving offshore, he was a senior associate at a leading Singapore law firm. Christine recently completed the English Bar and joins the firm having gained prior legal experience in Singapore.
In Hong Kong, IChing Lee has recently been appointed as legal manager. Previously in the Hong Kong office of another leading offshore law firm, IChing's practice focuses primarily on representing private investment funds and their sponsors on their formation, operation and financing. She also advises clients on a wide range of corporate transactions.
Similarly, Daniel Moore joined the firm's Hong Kong office at the beginning of March from the banking and finance team of another top tier offshore firm in Hong Kong, having trained onshore at one of the world's top international firms. A senior associate, Daniel specialises in debt finance transactions with significant experience in secured and unsecured commercial lending, pre-IPO financings, margin lending, real estate and acquisition finance transactions.
The six appointments are the latest in a series of developments which ensure Carey Olsen has a substantial presence in both Singapore and Hong Kong offering corporate, funds, litigation, restructuring, insolvency and trusts and private wealth advice.
Carey Olsen, which is amongst the fastest growing offshore firms in Asia, supports its Asian-based clients with on-the-ground legal advice on the laws of Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Jersey – the only offshore law firm with this capability in Asia.
Anthony McKenzie, managing partner of Carey Olsen's Singapore office, said: "We are delighted to welcome Kate, Vivian, Keng Huang, Christine, IChing and Daniel to Carey Olsen's Asia team. Between them they bring a considerable amount of experience in advising across a broad range of practice areas and industry sectors. The appointments also reflect the increasing volume of instructions our various teams are seeing as well as the wider group's commitment to meeting the needs of clients with challenging cross-border transactions and disputes."
Carey Olsen has had a presence in Asia since opening its Singapore office in 2015. It launched its Hong Kong office a year later.
